About

Perkasie Borough Authority provides water supply/distribution and sewer collection services to the Borough of Perkasie as well as water supply/distribution services to neighboring East Rockhill Township and to portions of West Rockhill Township and Hilltown Township.

As the community served by the Authority has grown from 50 services in 1895 to 4,375 services in 2009 the goal of providing potable (safely drinkable) water remains the same. With a staff of 10 people, the Authority works daily to ensure a safe supply of drinking water for its consumers and an adequate supply of water for use in a fire emergency situation.

The Authority strives to achieve the most efficient, conservation conscious operation by regularly monitoring, upgrading, and updating its systems.

The following are some points regarding Perkasie Borough Authority that we feel everyone should know:

  • The Authority provides water and sewer service to 4375 water customers and 3768 sewer customers at an average cost of $.93 for water, $1.14 for sewer, and $.05 for fire protection per day, based on an average use of 15,000 gallons per quarter. These rates are among the lowest in the Bucks and Montgomery County area.
  • The Authority has been a leader in water use reduction and conservation over the years, and has replaced and upgraded 8.2 miles of water lines over the last 15 years, thus reducing water loss by replacing outdated infrastructure.
  • In 2008 our average daily water production was less, per unit, than the year 1994 with 1,117 more customers than 1994, which shows the effectiveness of the Authority’s water conservation efforts.
  • In 2002 the Authority was recognized by the Delaware River Basin Commission as an Authority that set an example in water resource management.
  • To date we are the only provider to have a “reserve allocation” of water available from the Delaware River Basin Commission, in the event we would need it. The pro-active management of the water and sewer systems by the Authority made this possible.
  • The Authority’s management of its sewage collection system was recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in their report to the United States Congress on the impacts and control of sanitary sewer system overflows.
  • In both 2003 and again in 2005 the Authority was rewarded by the financial markets when they received an underlying A rating on their bond issues. At that time we were one of only 8 Authorities in the Commonwealth that had received this rating from Standard and Poor’s and one of 22 when combined with those rated by Moody’s rating service, out of over 400 authority bond issues across the Commonwealth. In March 2008 the Authority’s rating was increased to an A+. This rating allows the Authority to borrow funds at lower interest rates, which translates into savings to our customers
  • In 2006 the Insurance Services Office (ISO) issued a letter to the Borough of Perkasie where by they sited the improvement to the Fire Protection flow throughout the system and lowered the Borough’s fire rating from a class 5 to a class 4 which may lower the rates property owners pay for fire insurance. (Check with your own insurance agent to confirm.)

We think these points, and many others that we could mention, show that the Authority is a viable, efficient and responsible organization that is a leader in the Water Industry. We are quite proud of our accomplishments and we invite and encourage the public, to come see what we do.
